"To get people involved and to improve efficiency." That's the goal behind INDEXX's new process improvement program, according to Richard Bowers, Prepress/Digital Supervisor and one of the driving forces behind the initiative.

Designed to make use of the broad knowledge base held by INDEXX employees, the program's intent is to help the company operate in a leaner fashion, build camaraderie, and emphasize the worth of each employee's input. An added hope is that suggestions made by employees will help INDEXX grow its business and ultimately deliver staff advantages via increased cost-savings. While the program primarily benefits printing production, it also encompasses the company's other divisions.

Employees can submit as many suggestions to their managers as they wish. Each one is documented, and then all of the ideas are evaluated by supervisors and company officers to determine the most impactful recommendation. Every submitter is recognized with a certificate at INDEXX's monthly company meeting, and the person behind the strongest, most immediately implementable suggestion is presented a gift.

At year's-end, a prize will also go to the employee whose idea has led to the greatest savings in cost or efficiency over the past 12 months based on criteria established by supervisors and officers. In addition, notation of the employee's service to the company will be included in his or her permanent file.

For September – the inaugural month of the process improvement initiative – Gina Garrison (Bindery) won the overall prize. Employees receiving certificates included Jasmijn Vanackere (Prepress), Pamela Bredehoft (Prepress), and Freddie Wuehr (Bindery).
